TRIPADVISOR REVIEW
Another happy Guest at the Abbey
“surpassed expectations
booked last minute for hospital visit. . then checked it out on trip advisor. .as you do. I always take bad reviews with a pinch of salt but also do read them first. we think, well . .if this is the very worst. . could we manage here. over the years we've had very good experiences both in Ireland and abroad. just lucky I guess! quite honestly, this is one of the biggest surprises we've encountered. so close to town is not usually our thing, but the proximity to the hospital was important in this case. we've never seen such a well located hotel in what is practically town centre. .but with country attributes. the gardens and Abbey are beautiful. the leisure centre perfect for families. pool depth spot on. Our room is really spacious, biggest bathroom so far in all our travels. spotlessly clean. the style and decor is a joy. the tapestries and quirky art on the 2nd floor is amazing. the furniture and decor in general just fit to the space and ambience of the place. so many saying 'tired ' etc. .the maintenance required for the outdoor space alone must be enormous. To modernise the decor and furnishings would ruin the feel here. this is not a boutique hotel and God forbid it ever goes down that road. the staff are so very helpful, accommodating and efficient. it's not somewhere we would usually stay being not THAT far from home, but we'll definitely book again just for the pleasure of it. Really cannot praise this hotel enough. winning formula in our book. comforts not usually offered in Ireland such as air con, and dens in the garden within the trees for the kids, free good signal WiFi . perfect mix of today's world and olde worlde charm rolled into one. obviously we'd recommend this hotel to everyone, we're totally enchanted by it. the food looked and smelled amazing when we chose to take a drink out to enjoy the sunshine. unfortunately for us, appointment meant very late lunch and therefore very late dinner by which I time the foodservice was over. .looking forward to breakfast now! Outstanding cuisine and first-rate service
"Visiting from the states for a family reunion, the Abbey proved the perfect venue for our group of 20-plus. Comfortable rooms, well-appointed lounge (and well-stocked bar), and the friendly, personable service you would expect from a B&B but rare for an event hotel. Even rarer, the food for our group dinner rated among the best meals we had in Ireland. Everyone raved about their entrees and the generously heaped shared dishes. Highly recommend for anyone traveling through the Irish Midlands
"The Food is of a quality you would expect to find in a five star hotel"
Great Meal Reviewed by John G Casey
"Went to the Abbey with a few friends not for the first time and once again the meal was excellent, my steak cooked medium to perfection, didn’t want it to end , everyone else was also very happy and afterwards a few drinks finished off the evening beautifully"
Californa USA Guest - "The Best Breakfast Buffet"
"I stayed here in late June for two nights. It is a historic property and it is beautifully maintained. My room was large, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Many delicious choices. There was no extra charge for parking which was nice. The cost was very fair considering all that was included, and how nice it all was. They had a fitness center with a pool and hot tub, which I used. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. I have recommended this hotel to others and would definitely stay there again. It is close by car to Strokestown and Tulsk".
"Myself and my wife recently discovered the hotel following a search for a weekend break.
We loved the hotel on sight and we're not disappointed by the friendly reception we got on arrival - first Impressions being important and all that. We were pleasantly suprised by the room and it's size- what we were not expecting was how comfortable the beds would be. We both got best sleep we had all year ! Hotel generally very clean. Also although there was a wedding on on the floor below the soundproofing was so good you would not notice it was on. There was no sound - again great sleeps ! were pleasantly suprised by the room and it's size- what we were not expecting was how comfortable the beds would be. We had great food in bar/restaurants reasnobly priced but very enjoyable. If I was owner I would enhance the old world vibe by decoration and artifacts where possible though as you have a great opportunity here to do so.
We loved the Abbey and views and the quaint smoking area ... in all we loved the feel of the hotel old vibe yet it is a modern hotel it has an old world charm The Roscommon people and staff were very welcoming and friendly. All in all, a charming, relaxing and importantly, inviting, hotel & staff where we felt very at home. Shall be back for another break as soon as we can in new year

Christmas catch ups !
"As a regular customer of the Abbey Hotel I spent a fabulous evening with my friends here recently. As always the service is exceptional with friendly smiles all round. There is one member of staff who without fail goes above and beyond to meet customer needs. Thanks to Michael (bar man) for looking after my friends and I as we started out Christmas celebrations. Looking forward to visiting again in 2019.
Quality
"This is a high quality hotel. Room was very clean and tidy, staff were very professional and friendly, nice atmosphere. Good value for money, we got a very good deal. Hotel close to town centre for shopping and socialising. I would rate this hotel 9 out of 10.

"This was a beautiful hotel. The photos don't do justice to the stained glass, the sympathetic renovations, the lovely canopy ceiling. The room was large, the bathroom was large too and excellent. We had dinner the first night and it was delicious, couldn't eat better in Dublin. The bed were comfortable and we slept well.
Beautiful hotel
"Very nice stay in the abbey,I was a wedding guest, the hotel is beautiful at this time of the year, so cosy, the meal at the wedding was delicious and the service was fast and friendly. The bedroom was large and clean.
Weekend Delight
"Have stayed in the Abbey Hotel on a few occasions. I love its olde world charm and wonderful artefacts. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is lovely and plentiful. It is within easy walking distance of Roscommon town centre.
Excellent Lunch!
"We stopped for lunch at the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon. It is a carvery lunch where you are served cafeteria style and then take your tray to a table in a lounge room off of the bar. The entree included two vegetables and both mashed and toasted potatoes. We both had the salmon and it was all excellent. Our cousin had the half portion of pork and it was excellent too. Excellency from Sligo was visiting the hotel for a lunch meeting and everyone was a twitter! That was just a bonus to the wonderful lunch."

La nourriture est excellente. Très propre et bien décoré. Beaucoup de charme dans cet hôtel. J'aimerais bien rentrer."

"Dinner: was exceptional! The chefs and staff certainly had their A-game. The steak was cooked perfectly, trimmings equally fresh and rich with flavour. Lamb was also done exceptionally well."
"Wonderful Family Meal" Sunny D
"Celebrated a birthday in the restaurant with a number of family members and everyone had the same opinion that the food and service could not have been better! From the first communication with the hotel it was absolutely excellent providing email confirmation and a copy of a set menu. I was very impressed by their professionalism. The set menu was excellent value at €35 for a four course meal including a sirloin steak. All the men were very impressed with the generous dishes of mixed vegetables, potatoes, chips, onions and mushrooms and as much complementary breads as we could eat. The service from emer in particular was excellent and we couldn't have celebrated a meal more heartily. The wine choice was very extensive and very well priced. I would whole heartedly recommend the abbey restaurant for a gathering of any size with food options to suit vegan, vegetarian and coeliac as the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful."
"As a business man I travel a lot with my job but any time I am in the Midlands I always like to stay at the Abbey. The highlight of my stay is always the food. It really is the best cuisine you will find in the West of Ireland and that’s a broad statement coming from some one like me who likes a good steak and a glass of wine and knows it will be cooked exactly to my liking. The Food is of a quality you would expect to find in five star hotel, great variety, local produce and most of all great value when you are a business traveller like me. The new restaurant has really transformed the place so when I have new business client I want to impress I make sure to book my table in the new booth seating area with views of the old abbey ruins. Derek and Angela are always so professional but it’s the friendly and welcoming staff in general and the comfort of having that home from home feeling that makes me return each time."
Wonderful stay – Lavender from Chesterfield UK
"We stayed here for three nights in September 2017 and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The hotel is next to a ruined Abbey and the Hotel itself is an old very interesting building. The room and ensuite were both spacious and very comfortable and very clean. The staff on the desk were all very helpful and polite and friendly. The breakfast was fantastic. There was always a good choice and the food delicious. Some mornings it was a choice of cold items like cereals, fruit, yoghurts, breads, fruit juice etc etc, then a hot buffet of bacon, sausage, black and white pudding, potato, tomato, eggs then toast. All perfectly cooked. Another morning it was the cold buffet then we ordered from a menu and I had a mushroom omelette which was amazing. I could not fault this hotel at all and will definitely return when we are next in Roscommon. I'm only sorry we didn't have time to visit the leisure centre and have a swim. We went to see the pool and it looked so inviting. Next time!"

"My mother and I stopped off for a light lunch,I had not been in the hotel for some time and when I got married almost 20 years ago this is where we had our reception. Whilst paying for lunch I mentioned this in conversation to a charming and friendly gentleman who was on the till. He did not charge for our tea or coffee and very kindly offered them on the house.
What a lovely gesture and thank you Adrian
The Abbey is a so tastefully decorated and the staff are so friendly."

"Amazing place to stay loved it ...The food was delicious every day, from the breakfast to the dinner,(now I know why they got so many awards).I booked this as a surprise for my Daughter so she could stay in a Castle. We were amazed from the time we drove up the drive way into the car park until the time we left. We stayed in a family room, our room and bathroom was huge, the bed was super king size, the mattress was so comfortable.even had a bottle opener on the tiled wall in the bathroom. The room was spotless just like everywhere in the Hotel. The food was delicious every day, from the breakfast to the dinner,(now I know why they got so many awards)...We all had a ball even though it was raining heavy most of our stay it didn't bother us because we had the pool and beautiful surroundings, like the abbey ruins that are on the grounds, making a beautiful view from the dinning room/restaurant.Could not fault anything at all, I would highly recommend this as a get away from it all break. Like I said AMAZING......"
